Can’t get to a store or planning a surprise? Measure your ring at home. It may not be exact, but it should be very close.
Follow these directions to measure your finger.
- Find a piece of string or strip of paper no wider than ¾”.
- Wrap it around the base of the appropriate finger.
- Use a pen to mark the point on the string/paper where it overlaps, forming a complete circle.
- With a ruler, measure the length from the starting end of the string/paper to the pen mark.
- Use this measurement and the chart below to determine your ring size.
Tips for Measuring a Ring Size
* After sliding the ring sizer on, make sure it slides off easily over the knuckle.
* Don’t measure cold fingers, as this is when fingers are the smallest.
* If you measure the finger at the end of the day or after a high-sodium meal, the finger will be at its largest.
If you’re buying the ring as a surprise:
* Ask your partner’s mother, sister or one of their friends if they know their finger size.
* Secretly, take one of her rings and get the measurement at a retailer.
